It’s the start of a new week..
- New Music Friday
- COVID-19 updates
- Potential catastrophic disaster
- Southwest will stop limiting capacity on flights starting December 1st
Let’s do a recap.
New music on Friday is a guarantee. This weekend was full of new music. Ty Dolla $ign, Joyner Lucas, Dej Loaf & more.
R&B artist Ty Dolla $ign dropped an album “Featuring Ty Dolla $ign.” The name is ironic because he is known for being the king of features. This album features Gunna, Young Thug, Future, Jhene Aiko, Roddy Ricch, Mustard, and others.
Dej Loaf finally dropped a new album “Sell Sole 2” The Detroit rapper is known for her hit single “Try Me” in 2014. She’s also collaborated with Future and Jacques to produce hits like “Hey There” “At The Club” and others.
My new artist discovery of the week is Joyner Lucas. He dropped a new album this Friday called “Evolution.”
As the weeks continue, the number of new COVID-19 infections continues to increase. For the sixth straight week, the number of new infections has surged. In fact, every day an average of 59,000 new cases are reported.
The midwest has become the new epicenter for the virus. States like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois have been the most affected. As we enter the cold weather months, experts predict that numbers will only increase.
The United States is not the only country dealing with COVID-19.
This pandemic has affected everyone in the world. Although the coronavirus is a global issue, each country has handled the virus differently.
India the second country most affected by COVID-19 has finally begun to see a decrease in new infections. The national recovery rate has risen to 90 percent, but the coronavirus has opened the door to another issue, sex trafficking.
This pandemic has hit India’s economy hard, leaving many without jobs. Children are permitted to work in family businesses and nonhazardous places at the age of 14, but this pandemic has created a necessity for work which has caused a vulnerability for traffickers.
Children are now working in factories and under conditions that they wouldn’t normally work. This has reversed years of work India has done to correct their child labor laws.
Over 1,000 children “suspected” of being trafficked have been rescued in India over the past 6 months.
On my podcast HeavieTalk, I do a segment called
Thing That Had Me Like What
The point of the segment is to call out things I’ve seen, heard, or read about throughout the week on social media, in real life, and from others that had me like WTF!
The ultimate goal of HeavieTalk is to spread, truth, peace, and positivity, while also being informative, empowering, and educational.
A potential catastrophic disaster is occurring currently in the Gulf of Paria. Since January 2019 an oil tanker carrying approximately 80 million barrels of oil is tilting at a 25-degree angle which could lead to an oil spile worse than Exxon Valdez in 1989.
Originally the goal was to offload the oil but the vessel has been stranded to prevent the risk of U.S sanctions.
A move that many advocates and social activists are calling “discriminative”, social workers in Texas can now reject clients for being LGBTQ+ or for having a disability.
This controversial measure was made with the recommendation of Governor Greg Abbott.
With the number of cases continuing to increase, Southwest has announced that they will no longer limit capacity on flights starting December 1st. Previously, Southwest limited capacity, by keeping middle seats open, which they believe lost them an average revenue of $20 billion in the month of October.
This isn’t the first major move by Southwest this month.
Recently, Southwest announced they will be moving to Chicago’s O’hare airport in 2021. Chicagoans looking to book with Southwest originally had to fly from Midway airport.
Southwest is not the first airline to stop social distancing on flights. In June, American and United Airlines made the decision to book their flights to full capacity.
This weekend American Airlines and United Airlines informed customers that planes will now be booked to full capacity, dropping all social distancing guidelines. Because of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, all airlines had previously limited their booking capacity to less than 50%, not allowing any middle seats to be booked. Despite the surge in new cases, both airlines have decided to abandon social distancing guidelines. American and United Customers across the country expressed outrage with this decision.
It’s the year 2020. I can’t believe we’re still saying “the first..” anything, but we are.
Making World Series history, Jessica Mendoza became the first female to serve as an analyst on a nationally televised broadcast. Mendoza made history Tuesday night when she started her commentary for the 2020 World Series between the Los Angelos Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays.
Lakers owner Jeanie Buss made history by becoming the first female controlling owner to win an NBA championship when the Los Angelos Lakers won their 17th NBA title on October 11th.
Buss originally took over ownership of the Lakers in 2017, after a legal battle with her brothers.
The deadline to register has ended in some states.
